Road to Emmaus

The Road to Emmaus is a story that has captivated the imagination of many generations.

Mourning the death of Jesus, two first-century travelers were joined by a mysterious stranger. Over the next few hours, the stranger revealed mysteries hidden in the ancient Scriptures. Soon the purpose of Jesus’ life became clear … and the travelers’ sadness turned to great joy.

A movie resource starring Bruce Marchiano of The Visual Bible: “Matthew” and “Acts.”

A great tool for basic evangelism or deeper Bible study. The 30-minute movie introduces people to the main characters and events of the Bible and links them to Jesus as God’s plan of salvation.

Come Follow Me

Come Follow Me is a movie that depicts what it means to be a disciple, a follower of Jesus. The movie recounts the experience of the apostle Peter—his misunderstanding, denial, doubts, and fears. The answer for Peter is Jesus who assures his disciple of forgiveness through his death on the cross and resurrection from the dead. The way for Peter to be a follower of Jesus is found in the power and promises of Jesus’ word, in the same way as it is for us.

There are seven scenes in the 34-minute movie:

1.  Upper Room – Lord’s Supper and Jesus teaching his disciples
2.  Garden of Gethsemane – Jesus’ prayer, betrayal, and arrest
3.  Courtyard of the High Priest – Peter’s denial
4.  Tomb – Jesus’ burial and resurrection
5.  Sea of Galilee – Jesus’ appearance after his resurrection
6.  Ascension – Jesus’ commission for his disciples
7.  Pentecost – Peter preaches by the power of the Holy Spirit

The movie can help Christians grow spiritually and also provide them with a tool for sharing with people they know who need Jesus. For those reasons, the movie and the prepared materials may be used for a study with members.

Since much of the movie’s content relates to Jesus’ passion and resurrection, the Come Follow Me movie and its accompanying study would be very meaningful during Lent leading up to Easter. At the introductory lesson the entire movie is viewed and briefly discussed with prepared Questions for Reflection. Following are seven one-hour lessons that focus on a particular segment of the movie. At the end of the study, encourage members to give a movie DVD to a relative or friend and invite them to Easter services.

Use this movie for sharing your faith. View the movie with people you know, or give it to them to view on their own.  Then take time to discuss the meaning of the movie for our lives. Use the Questions for Reflection document to guide that discussion.
